Wangkama Nyiyaparli
wong·gah·mah nyee·yah·bali
meaning: talk Nyiyaparli
A 15-minute short film about the Nyiyaparli Living Language Project, as told by the Nyiyaparli community.
‘Wangkama Nyiyaparli’ Talk Nyiyaparli is a powerful, community-driven short film about resilience, conservation, and cultural pride.
It tells the story of the Nyiyaparli Living Language Project (NLLP) – a grassroots language conservation initiative with a clear purpose from the Nyiyaparli community: to keep the Nyiyaparli language alive forever.
Born from a deep desire to protect culture, the NLLP began in 2022, when only eleven fluent speakers remained. Today, just eight survive. Their voices are precious. Their knowledge is rare. Their cultural wisdom lives on.
Through personal stories, creative tools, and everyday acts of pride, the film showcases how the Nyiyaparli community is breathing life back into its language, one word at a time.
The NLLP is proudly powered by Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC – the Native Title Body Corporate appointed by the Nyiyaparli Common Law Holders.
Thank you to all involved in helping to make this powerful and moving short-film.
